46-43 Days

Time is flying!! Hard to believe that two weeks from today will be the last day in the DC office. Unreal.

It’s been chilly and rainy this week-somehow the rain seems to deter me from taking photos.

Don’t have any photos from Tuesday or Wednesday. Tuesday was such a post red-eye blur. Wednesday-had the joy of taking another class with Janou!

44 days left-had an awesome crab feast with Janou and Katie. Pinot Grigio, buttery crab meat, wedding talk….and-a quick visit with Grover!

This afternoon, my colleague Brenda took me to lunch at POV. I’ve learned SO much from her and feel so lucky I’ve worked with her these last two years. Having a thoughtful mentor and advocacy role model has been a tremendous gift in these early stages of my career. The view from the W this afternoon was incredible. This beautiful city:

47-49 Days

In the cab on the way home from Dulles-have some catching up to do:

47 days: I didn’t take any photos on Saturday. On the flight in, I watched the news unfold about the horrific slaughter in Isla Vista. Enough is enough. This violence is out of control. As we learn more about the killers motives, the story gets more and more terrifying. Don’t really have anything more to say, it’s just too horrific. I’m thinking and praying for the victims, their family, and the community.

48 days: Being home this weekend was especially nice. Abu and I both got in on Saturday, and Mom and I took care of some fun wedding errands before dinner with Silvia and Alex. It was very special to have dinner at home with my family and in-laws about a year after the engagement.

On Sunday, Mom’s friend Deb threw a lovely shower. It was Pinterest perfection. She thought of every sweet detail, from napkins to wine glass rings, a banner to delicious food. Betty and Abu were both there, making it extra special. It was fun for me to see Mom laugh and have fun with her friends-everyone had a blast!

All of the guests had very sweet advice about families and marriage-I’m feeling more and more ready for this next journey! It was especially nice to spend the afternoon surrounded by people who’ve known me close to my whole life. Living so far from home, sometimes I feel like my growing up community is not a part of my current world, and it was nice to be enveloped in their kindness and good wishes.

Our awesome hosts-Lionel and Deb.

47 days: Cant believe its 47 days till the wedding! Enjoyed a nice, relaxed Memorial Day with Mom and Silvia. After an incredibly efficient dress fitting, we want to Orange to walk around and have lunch at the Filling Station:

Patio seating and no humidity is divine.

Soon it was time to head back to the airport for the red eye to DC. And now, just a few hours later-back to Washington, back to work!

50 days

50 days till the wedding!! Actually, as I write this I’m technically on Day 49, but whose counting…

Friday was another day of lovely weather. A weather report with 40% humidity is a beautiful thing and the day did not disappoint.

My coworkers and I took advantage of the summer day and enjoyed lunch in the grass in Franklin Square.

After scooting out of work earlier than usual, I snagged a good spot at the Sculpture Garden for the first night of Jazz in the Garden. Catherine met me, and we split chips, guac and good conversation in the company of hundreds of Washingtonians crammed on the lawn. Still have a lot to learn about jazz, but this band was good.

The line for sangria was miles long, so after a few hours we walked over to the Hill Country pop up for some country music and Shiner. That band was also awesome, and it was nice to sit on the benches, catch up with Catherine and enjoy more excellent music.

Trying to not get too weepy about leaving friends and happy moments like this in DC. I know there’s a lot to look forward to, and I’m so thankful for happy moments and memories.

Now, last catch up on the Bachelorette party! After an incredible dinner at PABU-spicy ginger drinks and crunchy Maryland crab rolls-we were walking back to the lobby when Catherine blurted-“guys. It’s Michael Phelps.”

He was waiting for his car with his buddies-who were just as uninterested in meeting us as he was. Normally, I never bother celebrities, but I’d been drinking, it was my bachelorette, soo….sorry MPhelps! It was hilarious.

Katie and Janou’ Friday night scheming began to unfold when a huge SUV rolled up to drive us around for the evening. Katie handed me a yellow envelope with a clue-in a haiku! The first stop-where is alllll began…from there we hit up Camden Yards, the Dog Pub, and our favorite bars.

It was absolutely thrilling dancing in the car with my best friends, driving around the city we love. Not only was it a freaking BLAST, but it was an emotional trip back to many happy memories.

I lost it when we pulled up to the third clue-my old house on Hamburg. Janou and Katie had decorated the side with a poster of photos, saying “Welcome Home Fay!”

It was unbelievable. Getting emotional writing this, but I just wish I had the words to express what it meant knowing that Janou and Katie put so much thought and time into this, and celebrating and reveling in it with my friends was incredible.

We topped off the already perfect night with one last stop–mushroom pizza and blue cheese dressing at Maria D’s. HEAVEN.

51 days

A quick moment before going to sleep-51 days till the wedding!

Walking home tonight, there was an incredible brass band outside the Chinatown metro stop, across from Rosa Mexicana. At least 6 musicians, full of life, dancing while they played, entertained the street and restaurant patio.

Walking down a city street with live music playing and people bustling around always makes me feel like everything is a movie. The picture perfect late evening summer sun really helped tip the whole thing into a very happy moment :)

I didn’t have cash on me, so I didn’t want to take a photo of the band, but I snapped the street so I could remember the moment:

Sooo sleeepyyyy….

More to come on the Charm City Bach. But for tonight, here’s what made me smile on the 52 day countdown:

Being able to go for a walk in my neighborhood and wind up on the lawn of the mall, admiring the Washington Monument:
